Tending the Brood of Chicks

May 20: Rufous has a Snack

This afternoon Jay and I spotted one of the hawks in the cypress tree near our house. It was probably Rufous, and he was eating a portion of a bird. As Rufous devoured the meat, a small piece fell to the ground. When he had finished his meal, he zoomed across the yard to our north. I walked out after a few minutes to see if I could find what Rufous dropped, but it must not have been much, because I couldn't find even a tiny morsel.

May 21: Tending the Brood of Chicks

Today, Henrietta was sitting so high in the nest that her entire tail and part of her underbody were visible. Earlier in the day, Jay reported seeing her sitting beside the nest.
